Hip eyewear brand Warby Parker opening another Northern Virginia store

March 29, 2018

Warby Parker, the buzzy eyewear company that has been growing its brick-and-mortar presence in the D.C. area for the past few years, is branching out to Old Town Alexandria.

The retailer will take the former Duchess M boutique space at 805 King St., according to a source with knowledge of the deal. A website for contractors also lists an open bid process for the buildout of a Warby Parker Retail Store in Alexandria City with a value of approximately $300,000.

Warby Parker opened its first D.C. area location in Georgetown, following that with a location in Shaw and others in Tysons and Bethesda. The retailer, which began as an e-commerce outfit, charges $95 for a basic pair of glasses including frames and lenses, and also sells prescription and non prescription sunglasses. It also promises to donate a pair of glasses to someone in need for every pair purchased.

Some Warby Parker locations have in-house optometrists in order to do eye exams, but it was not immediately clear whether the Old Town location would include the doctor’s office.

Asana has been working to strike the right balance with the retail mix for its growing portfolio in the city. The company recently purchased the Old Town Theater, as well as six additional buildings, several in the 100 block of King Street. The Charlotte-based landlord is in the process of renovating 1006 King St. — formerly home to European Country Living — which we’re hearing will house a new location of blow dry studio Drybar, among other retail tenants.
